Sprint
CA 1999 / 1999 revenue: 17 MM$ (+6,2%)
Bénéfices 1999 / 1999 income: 1,6 MM$ (+2,1%)
Fast on its feet, Sprint trails only AT&T and
WorldCom in the race for US long-distance markets. The
field will shrink, however, when Sprint is acquired by
WorldCom. Sprint is also the #2 non-Baby Bell
local-service phone company (after GTE), with more than 8
million lines in 18 US states. Sprint's FON Group handles
these businesses, as well as telecom equipment
distribution, directory publishing, and Sprint's
interests in EarthLink (Internet access) and Call-Net
(telecommunications in Canada). It also offers Sprint ION
(Integrated On-Demand Network), a bundled telecom
services package. Sprint's PCS Group provides digital
wireless PCS service throughout the US. The two groups
trade through separate tracking stocks.
Sprint PCS
CA 1999 / 1999 revenue: 3,2 MM$ (+159%)
Bénéfices 1999 / 1999 income: -2,5 MM$
Sprinting to take the lead in the wireless race,
Sprint PCS Group (a Sprint unit with its own tracking
stock) runs an all-digital wireless network that serves
about 6.5 million subscribers. The company has PCS
licenses covering all 50 US states (including some 360
metro areas), Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. Its
network uses code division multiple access (CDMA)
technology. Independent regional affiliates such as
Airgate PCS and Alamosa PCS extend the reach of the
Sprint PCS brand, adding nearly 500,000 subscribers. The
Sprint PCS Wireless Web service offers wireless Internet
access and content through partners such as America
Online, EarthLink, and eBay.

France
Télécom a fini par racheter Global One à
ses deux partenaires.
