Cox Communications carries the complete collection of cable capacity. The company provides cable TV service to 6 million customers in 23 US states and digital cable TV to 265,000 subscribers. The company is also deploying fiber-optic networks and upgrading its hybrid fiber-coaxial networks in order to move into the telecommunications and Internet arenas. It has begun offering cable-based Internet access and local and long-distance phone services in some of its service areas. Cox also operates a competitive local-exchange carrier (CLEC), serving up voice and data communications to businesses. Cox Enterprises owns 67% of Cox Communications, which has investments in TV programming and broadband technology firms.
